MELD Score
Calculate the Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) score from bilirubin, creatinine, and INR. Used to prioritize liver transplant candidates by disease severity and 90-day mortality risk.

How to use the meld score
Enter bilirubin (mg/dL), INR, and serum creatinine. Tick dialysis if the patient had ≥2 sessions in the last week (creatinine forced to 4.0).
Formula & explanation
Original MELD = 9.57 × ln(Cr) + 3.78 × ln(Bili) + 11.20 × ln(INR) + 6.43. Values floored at 1, Cr capped at 4. Final score bounded 6–40.
Examples
Bili 1.2, INR 1.2, Cr 1.0 → MELD ≈ 6 (low risk).
Frequently asked questions
- MELD vs MELD-Na?
- MELD-Na adds sodium and is used for transplant prioritization since 2016. This page returns the classic MELD.
