eGFR Calculator

Calculate estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) using the CKD-EPI 2021 equation. Used to stage chronic kidney disease from serum creatinine, age, and sex.

eGFR (mL/min/1.73 m²)
88.9
CKD stage
G2 (mildly reduced)

How to use the egfr calculator

Enter serum creatinine (mg/dL), age (years), and sex. The CKD-EPI 2021 race-free formula returns eGFR in mL/min/1.73 m².

Formula & explanation

CKD-EPI 2021: 142 × min(Scr/κ, 1)^α × max(Scr/κ, 1)^−1.200 × 0.9938^age × (1.012 if female). κ = 0.7 (female) or 0.9 (male); α = −0.241 / −0.302.

Examples

Scr 1.0, age 55, male → eGFR ≈ 87 mL/min/1.73 m² (G2).

Frequently asked questions

Why race-free?
The 2021 update by NKF/ASN removed the race coefficient to address health-equity concerns.
Children?
Use the bedside Schwartz formula for pediatric patients, not CKD-EPI.
